Character report:
Lt Phantasamo suffered severe injuries from reavers, during an assault on the true path compound. He was found with A radio in one hand, and Shiftys medical kit in the other. Lt Phantasamo, along with other surviving members of AFTG:7, have been transported t the vargo for emergency surgery.

Recommendations:
"Reaverized" players were tough to identify. Perhaps if they wore some loose and tattered clothing OVER their camouflage (but not interfere too much with the players gear) could remedy that. I suggest we clean out some thrift stores of 4X-6X t-shirts, dress shirts, sweat shirts Ect., for easy on easy off reaver garb.

Praise:
WOW is an understatement! This was the most fun I have had on a weekend for a very long time. I can't wait for next year.

Character report:
Kratthew D. Kraids heard the call from Task force 7 to help storm the castle and take the crazy preacher man alive. while attempting to reinforce the troops he received a nasty head wound (3) and crawled his way back to Freefall just as the Reavers attacked.

Recommendations:
I concur with Phantasmo about Reaverized characters, add some fake blood to the reaver garb too maybe? I know some of the Miners were hard to tell if they were miners, some people had a hard time telling if I was a miner or not. Maybe make us wear a colored arm band or a hard hat would be better probably.

Awesomeness:
Friggin' amazing!! I had such an incredible time with everything, everyone was so cooperative with keeping the ball rolling and having fun. I'm definitly coming out next year!

(The following is a translated series of grunts)

After landing on the rock, the reavers were battered and numbered few. They wandered from their landing site to find prey and were immediately rewarded with the capture of the spaceport. After reaverizing the occupants, most returned to the landing site to feast while the last few were cleared out by mercenary forces. Fed and ready to find more victims, the growing reaver contingency assaulted the mines, taking over the tower and capturing a few more people. The reavers fortified the mine from assault while a few reavers dragged others to the ship. Eventually, Alliance Task Force 7 came to clear them out with casualties on both sides, the reavers taking the larger blow. After such a large defeat, the reavers numbered few again, slowly raising their numbers for nightfall. With the coming of night, ATF 7 attacked the reaver dropsite and were assaulted with wave after wave of reavers from the ship, but the reavers were beaten back. Left to lick their wounds the Alliance left, the reavers resorted to night-time hit and run missions. One successful hit on the ship Farix(?) brought reinforcements into the eventual assault on the town, leaving wounded, though the local populace managed to keep them from dragging anyone off.

With sunrise, the reavers found themselves roaming the woods for prey, quickly finding themselves caught between a starship crew, the Alliance, and the militia. Their numbers dwindled and they resorted to hit and run engagements on the True Path compound and the mines. Though, the reavers had one new trick: the captains began to laden themselves with explosives, booby-trapping anyone who came to scalp them. Eventually, mercenaries came to attack the reaver dropship, and whittle their numbers further. Left to recoup, they fortified their landing site. Soon afterward, another mercenary group came to collect scalps but found the reavers in full force. With so many wounded nearby the camp, the reavers had a feeding frenzy, cannibalizing the mercenaries and strengthening their numbers with reaverized victims. More mercs and an armored car attempted to assault the base, but wave after wave of reavers captured both the mercs and the vehicles. In blood-lust, the majority of the reavers left to devour the castle while others fed. Those left behind were attacked and decimated by the True Path transcended, however, the departure of the cultists left only one man to defend the castle, who decided to eat his own RPG instead of being reaverized. The castle became the reavers' and from their new fortified position, they held off the Alliance, miners, and mercs, dragging whom they could back into the castle to reaverize. The afternoon ended with the reavers holding the castle in full force, fighting off the Alliance and the True Path super-soldiers who returned for their castle.

------------

I'd like to start with: I've never shot so much at a game before, ever. In that last castle engagement, I fired over a thousand rounds from the tower. Being a reaver captain was intense, though the confusion over reaver rules got to be quite a thorn in the side. Since there were so few of us to begin with, we decided to band together as a reaver crew. I felt this worked because it's shown that reavers will rampage together.

There were many people who were distressed by our "advanced tactics." I'll agree that we weren't very vocal for the first part of the day, though we changed that up and with a sore throat, I can say it was fun to scream at a camp and hear "reavers!" called out through our targets. As someone else pointed out, reavers can pilot spaceships, so they do have higher intelligence, it's just that their aggression is overwhelmingly driving them, so I never felt that simply attacking from multiple directions was illegal which was the brunt of our tactics, other than choosing what target to attack (which coincidentally was decided by the thought process of "where are the most people to shoot at?".) The reavers frequently moved about quietly, but after the first day, we decided that it would be good to cry out any time there is about to be any sort of attack and that worked well. It alerted the crowd that there were reavers about and that they were attacking. Until the very end, the reavers were never in overwhelming force, but the two minute respawn and free reload rules gave us a powerful ability to take a few people and terrorize entrenched positions unless they were willing to come scalp us. However, this failed several times against ATF7 when they pushed the reavers back. There were a few instances where reavers were not scalped and they simply stood back up and bang killed people nearby them. Personally, I think this was a great thing, because it added suspense and made sure that if you wanted a reaver to be dead, you scalped them - boobytrapped or not. The booby traps added a lot of flavor to this, to a point where people weren't willing to scalp me, instead sending druggies with their -3 wound buff to do the job.

Identifying reavers was hard. There was a point in the second day where we had a firefight with ourselves because we couldn't tell. This was helped by being vocal with growls, but I think the best method would be an element that identifies them as a reaver. We had a few bloodied rags that we tied to ourselves and I think next year, we need more of these. Requiring a reaver to tie a headband and a rag to each arm and leg would be a good standardized identification.

A problem arose with "camping" in the reavers as liberating the reaver camp often resulted in previously dead reavers suddenly respawning in the middle of firefight as well as forcing the reavers out of play. When the reavers took the castle at the end, it was declared a reaver base and this is an element I would like to see next year. The best solution to the camping problem would be to modify the reaver "objective" a little. There's evidence of reavers capturing territory, so allow certain locations to be reaverized as well. For example, if there are a minimum of three reavers in the space port, they can hang red ribbons around to signify it has been reaverized. Then, reavers can drag victims to this place to reaverize them. However, if they are scalped, they must return to the dropship location. If reavers lose or abandon a forward base, simply take the decor down. This would mean that there is reaver garb in all positions, but if you use my previous recommendation of tied rags, it wouldn't be too difficult to have a stash in each place. Of course, the primary objective of the reavers is still to assault things and take back survivors. This would, however, add a nice mission element of exterminating reavers from a location that is storyline significant.

Scalps were in short supply. I know for a fact that I supplied many a credit to reaver hunters. A potential solution to this as well as to the captured base problem would be to give reaver captains a stack of scalp cards to hand out at these bases. I wonder if anyone kept track of how many scalps were traded because the number must be substantial. It was a bit unfortunate that reavers couldn't participate in the bazaar because there was a lot of cool stuff for sale.

I think the rules need to worked on a little for the reavers. I can't say too much about the off-field stuff because we spent most of our time out out shooting people, though what I saw of the roleplay in town was quite good. This was a fantastic time! I will definitely be back and more than likely, you'll see me and my group running as reavers again. Thanks again for all the hard work to all the event coordinators.

Also, I still don't know where my radio is :(

Clarification to above:
Jedi (not the Prophet) was the one left in the castle at the end. He decided to eat his own RPG rather than face down that many Reavers.

As a miner I had more fun this year than last. Especially at the end. In order to be able to pull cystals from the drill head it needed to read 8.0 on the meter. That was no small task either. It took 45 minutes to an hour to fill one up. And having the engineer come around to clean and empty them every so often, I never got to see one full. That was until 3:40 Sunday afternoon. And it just so happened the engineer had skipped town with our payroll aboard the Waxwing. Only to be caught and brought back into the port. And it just so happened the Reavers struck at this time also. TF7 was tied up fighting the Reavers in the castle and nobody was watching the miners. Miners are always working in the worst conditions to be paid scant wages for the most danger. So being an opprotunist, I contacted Dxle Dyne and struck a deal.
It was tough running from the mines as the cries from TF7 of " Medic!" " Commander is down" filled the air. They were soon drowned out by the battle cries of the Reavers dragging the wounded back into the fort to have their flesh stripped from their bones.
But with two extractors in our hands and a pocket full of shinny jingling away, the TF7 cries were soon distant memories as the Port of FreeFall came into view. Safe in the port I gained a new employer as the equipment was returned to it rightful owner a long with a fresh pile o Shinny. Dxle Dyne will be the new power broker on this planet. I have no idea if any of TF7 survived. With the last Reaver attack on the town
I had to slay some of my miners who had been turned into Reavers. I believe only three miners survived the onslaught.

Miners will need a designated mark for next year. Multiple times I was staring down the barrel of a gun
of somebody guarding the mine.

More to follow

Character report: Sauter, leader of The Company

I was a little worried about starting up a Merc. outfit. It almost drained me of every credit I had to get it off the ground, but in the end it was well worth it, getting back all of my investment and then some. We did so well in fact that Mr. Dxle Dyne has offered us a contract to provide Security for the mines. After terms are agreed on I'll have to figure out how to keep the area clear, which won't be easy with a fort full Reavers next door. I will have to speak with my demo crew. Maybe they can come up with something to get those things out of there. Now that I think about it there may still be a couple barrels of fuel at the spaceport.

Also I heard what happened to Commander Kerrik. That was no way for a man like him to be taken out. I may not have seen eye to eye with him, and even been on the opposite end of a barrel a few times, but he was a good man.

I didn't like how the reavers changed the game. It was more of town vs. reavers then the other years were it was more dealing and stealing. my 2 cents

I tried to get photos of everyone at least once.
It gets hard to remember if you have taken some one's picture when there are 100 of us running around.
My apologies to anyone who I did not get a picture of, and even further apologies if having your photos taken without your consent upsets you. It does me. That's why I'm the usually the guy "taking" the photos. ;)

I'll reply when I have the character intros uploaded and shared.
My apologies again for those who I did nto get to.

Overall: Cherry of a game, Gryphon. I have been greatly looking forward to Freefall IV for over 24 consecutive hours now.
No game is without its problems, but I can see some truly great things being learned from Freefall III and incorporated into making Freefall IV a near-perfect event.
I walked away from this event with some wonderful lifelong memories, and can honestly say that it was a pleasure to meet and play with everyone. *tears up*
You guys rock!

I'll post an AAR from the Doc's perspective when I get the chance.
Please be sure to visit Wolf Recon's forums and PM me if I left something out or messed up anyone's name.

IT WAS AWSOME!

I agree with everything else everyone has said. Dont just give the Reavers away Uber Easy to be shot at but make them much more easy to identify. Also some of the little rules could use tweaking like the angels spawning in 5 secs was dangerous for them and everyone around.

Definatly a 10/10 though it was a ton of fun and I would love to go more than once a year.

Thank you

First LARP and it was awesome.

Character: "Hops", Cult of the True Path

I didn't really have a problem with the reavers, but that was because I was a cultist and had my own god-mode on anyways. I do agree that they are a bit overpowered. I must admit though, one of my favorite parts was when the Alliance burst into the True Path Compound looking for stolen mining equipment and there was gunfire. I was in town with Kevlar and we found Snowman who had betrayed the cult, so we were bringing him back to the prophet at gunpoint when we heard that the alliance was attacking. We saw alliance members with their APC at the door, and they saw that I was a cultist so they raised their guns at me. I suicide bombed with a grenade, and I admit that is a bit OP, but what works worked. After the hostilities there we were unaware that a ceasefire was being negotiated so when I saw those 20 or so Alliance troopers pinned in that little room I anxiously lobbed a grenade in there lol.

My favorite triggertime was the takeback from the reavers of the compound at the very end though. Awesome! I am looking forward to coming again next year.

Great photos, Kodiak!

I'm still working on my in-character AAR, and I think any glitches have already been mentioned, so I'll just say that it was a fantastic weekend, as usual. I find it amazing and wonderful that we have such a great core group of players (and game designer) that we can keep something as complex as Freefall going for this long. Here's to many years more, yeah?

First off, AMAZING job

Character: "Vendetta", Cult of the True path

It was a lot of fun, though I spent all but 1.45 hours of the game time defending the castle from the non-believers and infidels. My favorite event of the game was near the end after the cult had finished assaulting the Hellspawn Reaver camp (Cultists believe the Reavers were Demons to be killed and sent back to Hell) and we headed back to our temple to find it had been taken over by ~25 Reavers (number is from one of the Reavers after index was called) and the 6 cultists and some others were able to take it back into cult control before Index was called.

only issue was identifying Reavers (as stated many times above) and the Reaver scalps were very scarce.

O.M.G. That was the best thing I have ever participated in, ever. I have been a LARPer for about 9 years now and an AirSoft player for about 2.5-3 years and I just I have to say it was so comfortable here. everyone was incredibly friendly, the game went so smoothly and I can;t recall a time when I had some much fun!!!!! Looking forward to FF4 and looking to join up in OV:4 this Sept.

Character Report: Sephiro (Miner): I ended up in the Castle during the massive firefight, scrambling to find the Prophet to get my fix of Bug Juice before I died. About 2 minutes to character death, index was called (or at least that's when I heard it) but shortly before that I saw two guys tear up the Prophet. I later hear that may not be true.. Now under the impression that the good Prophet was actually killed I was going to run out back to camp. After game I learned that Dr. Braums was heading to the camp on the same path I was taking so we would have run into eachother.

I was also working with Dr. Sing and Dr. Braums on learning about what this Bug Juice was as it seemed to be killing people. Dr. Sing was processing a blood sample from myself and one from the Prophet when I was employed by Task Force 7 to gather the miners and assist with taking the castle. In return Commander Kerrick made the agreement with myself that he would grant all of the minors amnesty and we would no longer be indentured. I later learned that Commander Kerrick was KIA during the final battle for the castle

I was also helping Dr. Braum to uncover the truth about what had happened to his memory, why when accessing the cortex he collapsed in pain, why his identity and credentials didn't exist in the cortex anymore. Near the end of this I overheard Dr. Sing's recent cortex uplink and learned that her's was also missing.

Kudos: Everything was great. The storyline was very interesting and I like how anythign could change at a moments notice. With Mr. Maryweather Black taking off and betraying us hard working minors I know were going to be looking for some payback and some answers to find out who let him break atmo. I liked how it truly felt that this was an unpredictable worled in game, but out of game that it was still very very controlled and organized. I could write for hours about everythign in the event but will simply say. BEST WEEKEND EVER.

Recommendations: Reaver revise. About the only truly difficult part about the Reavers was knowing who was and was not a Reaver. Perhaps getting larger T-Shirts and making them into tunics would help. Larger white or Grey shits splatted in fake blood and black sharpie markings. I think this would be a simpler way to decern a Reaver and still let the player be comfortable.

With this in mind, I heard alot of talk about how the reavers were played. I do agree that normally reavers do not act cunning, stealthy, or use any tactical thought what-so-ever. However, who wants to play a bullet sponge right? Taking into consideration the episode where Mal and the others find a derilict ship and later learn it was taken by Reavers who are then captured by Alliance, we will remember the man who was becoming a Reaver displayed these traits freshly turning and turned Reavers I would think would still proses some of their higher functions before their mind tears itself apart.
Sunday proved to be a little better with the Reavers, many players were being more vocal about being a Reaver which helped. Now, with having more identifiable Reavers, it will not be as annoying if they are using tactics and strategic thought. So long as we know its a Reaver we know what to shoot at.

But enough about ripping on the Reavers. I think the addition of Reavers was pretty cool. Though this was my first FreeFall game I can;t imagine having it without the Reavers, in fact I cant' think of who to shot it besides Alliance or people who annoy us.....which come to think of it would be fun.

Final Thought: THIS WAS AWESOME, make the ravers more identifiable and I think were perfect where we are. the re spawn rules were cool because it simulated having a swarm of revers, what better way to turn 7 people int 30? Scalping was great too. I like having more incentive to kill Reavers. The Cultists were a mixed blessing. They almost felt too powerful. When I was hopped up on Bug Juice I was told that I could bounce back after 2 minutes because the Drug pretty much made me a sentient Reaver (for lack of a better term) However, how to you keep one of these cultists down? Do you need to get close and "scalp them" - effectively slit their throat or what? Also I think many people may have misunderstood (myself included) the re-spawn rules and powers of the cultists and their juice.

The prophet wasn't really killed. The cult dominated in the very end, completely securing the castle. When the two guys shot the prophet, that was after index and it was just for some funny camera footage. If it really happened anyways, he would have spawned in five seconds and would have been fine. Rekken knifed one guy and I bang killed the other guy. It was just all in good fun.

I was a cultist and perhaps I can fill you in on some details. To successfully kill a cultist, you must down them and reavers must capture them. It was my understanding that only the Archangles, i.e. Badger, Rekken, Myself, Kevlar, and Jedi were able to spawn after two minutes. The Prophet and Eve both had five second spawn times. The only way to kill them would be to capture them. If you killed the prophet and captured him, the entire cult would die over the span of the next hour and simply become reavers due to the lack of injections. Everyone else was just addicted to the narcotics.

Glad I could help ^^. I think there needs to be a way to keep players' powers more clandestine, but at the same time have them be easier to verify. Also I was reluctant to help verify for people because I didn't want to give away too much intel.

Freefall was a very complex game. There were many rules that I was not aware of concerning the True Path. I agree with Hans that the 5 second spawning angel rule was a dangerous thing when nobody knew about it. It also might just be a balance thing with how there were more True Path Archangels than reaver captains and how the archangels were much like unscalpable reavers. Also, I think a few of the cultists thought that Bug Juice gave them a two minute spawn whereas I was under the understanding that it gave a 3 wound reduction buff. Though I honestly have very little info as I was in the woods causing havoc for the better part of the two days.

One thing I would have loved to do more of is just attack people and slash at them, but when you run at people with AEGs...

This was my first Freefall game and my group didn't have strong roleplay characters so we just jumped into the reaver role and it was great! I think that it's true that it became "town vs. reavers" but I actually enjoyed that. Roaming the woods and screaming at anyone you find meant that nobody dared venture out alone. I would love to see the reavers reprise their role next year. In fact, I'd like to see them as another faction with a setup like we improvised this year: a few ship captains landing together to feast and bolster their numbers.

Addendum for Hop's last post: It's my opinion that respawn rules should never be a secret as that causes both confusion and dangerous situations. Everyone should have known reavers respawn in two minutes without scalping and we still ran into some situations that got pretty heated. It also gives the potential for some really dangerous hits from someone who you believe to be down.

Daily Mission Report to the Corporate World Contractors Board of Directors
July, 19th 2009
Richard Noggin -CWC Alpha Team Corporate Operations Officer
Codename-Armsdealer

Mission Background
I was summoned by CEO Beck and briefed on a mission to measure the feasibility and profitability of setting up "shop" in a new settlement being set up by Alliance TF7 after the horrific destruction of the magistrate’s independent port on Freefall. CEO Beck informed me that TF7 has new mines in the area that are slowly being brought into full production. As the mines increase production, the overall wealth of the settlers is increasing exponentially creating a clear opportunity for our Corporation to establish new CWC revenue streams. Operative team Alpha was quickly assembled and deployed to the outskirt settlement of the believer’s fortress compound.

Mission Objectives
CEO Beck established the following objectives for day one of this mission

Objective A - Completed
Set up a trading post operation to recoup the cost of corporate funding of this mission. Obtain legal contracts of employment that are both long term and profitable for the corporation. Explore all possible opportunities for future revenue streams.

Mission Summary
Upon the teams arrival the TF7 commander was contacted and all required weapons permits and licenses for the team were renewed and/or acquired. The local bank was contacted to accesses our corporate account and mission funding was approved. Side note: I would suggest a background investigation be initiated on this snide little banker. It is widely known that the alliance only charges 3% for wire fees but she insisted and charged us 5%....Gold-digger??? If we can establish evidence I am sure she would invest in the Corporations silence of her obvious illegal skimming operation.

CEO Beck located the largest of the local merchants, negotiated a buyout proposal and took control of operations. The two female merchants were given a background scan and approved for inclusion in the team. Several CWC operatives were ordered to arrive prior to the main team and mingle with the local populous for the evening to gather Intel, agents reported that the town is growing and attracting a wide variety of business. The local casino operator seems to be the most "plugged in" citizen and is quite happy to provide information during high stakes gambling. Seems the more you lose the more information he remembers. Increased reaver activity in the area is severely disrupting mine operations. During our initial patrol we negotiated a contract to escort a fuel shipment for the captain of a salvage ship called "Waxwing". Almost immediately outside the compound and throughout the entire mission we were attacked by reavers, the team had several minor injuries but all team members were brought back and the contract was completed. The pilot of the ship skipped planet and is in debt to the corporation for 250 alliance credits as our contract was successfully completed. I would suggest a debtor warrant be obtained and a collection team be deployed.

I would say a well defined contract opportunity exists with the Alliance TF7 commander as the increased reaver activity has severely drained his resources. We have ordered the team to sleep in satellite ships off planet as this seems to be the safest location. If the Alliance task force cannot rid the area of the accumulating mutilated corpses soon, I fear every reaver in the galaxy will arrive in a blood feeding frenzy and ultimately jeopardize the compounds habitation as well as our mission.

CEO Beck will follow up this report from his ship with a video conference uplink on July 20th 2009 at 8:00 A.M.

Respectfully Submitted
Richard Noggin
COO Alpha Team

Fantastic Episode!!! Loved the addition of the reavers. My only complaint...It ended too soon! Would love to see the game extended next year to include all day Saturday and Sunday. Character: Jamie from The Company

Jamie ran with The Company the whole event and helped to secure a few key objectives designated by Sauter. Also an aspiring chef, he tried to start up a bakesale, which nosedived. Jamie couldn't figure out why nobody wanted to buy the rice krispie treats he and another Company member had worked so hard to make. Discouraged and depressed, Jamie ended up going on a suicide mission in the last 1/2 hour of the game and was brutally killed and reaverized along with two other Company members.
Looks like The Company's gonna need to do some recruiting.

Feedback:

This was a great game! I loved how open ended everything was, and the mini economy added a really interesting level of gameplay. Though I don't particularly enjoy roleplaying myself, I can still appreciate that there were some excellent roleplayers at this event. Especially the doctors, crimeboss, and the crew of the Waxwing. Tod did an excellent job of keeping everyone informed and the game fair. I think everyone did their best, and it paid off. (Also, the reaver attacks in the camp at night were AWESOME!)

I did notice that the gameplay seemed to be a bit different from the stories I'd heard of previous years. I think the reavers kind of polarized things a bit. It ended up being reavers against non-reavers most of the time. My biggest concern was not being able to tell who was a reaver until after they had shot me, but I think that could be easily solved by using some kind of cheap, highly visible head covering like in Plague 2.

Many thanks to all who made this possible, I will definitely be back next time!

P.S. Our cameraman (Clawshrimp), captured about 16gb of footage and photos. I am currently trying to sort through it, but it filled up my hard drive, so it may take some time. I'll repost when I have more up, but here's a sample

for now. ----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A05KBX-Spu4
Enjoy!

Report 1340-22:00

The credits, while not entirely plentiful did make their way into circulation. My assistant and I took a fair cut of the profits in return for the endangerment of our lives. We did trade/finagle more then a few deals rather then take our percentage in some instances and I admit we were perhaps more then a little generous in the disbursement of the miners payroll, which was rather paltry and offensive for the backbone of this backwater.

The reaver problem was being dealt with admirably by ATF7 though when night came and everyone fell back into the town they fell upon us, only then did we befall any real danger. I owe my life to Mr Dice and his body guards who not only assisted us in protecting the bank and it's assists, but when we were injured he offered to pay for our medical expenses as well.

ATF7 protection of us during a routine pickup run was absolute to the point were I'd almost believe that the scant whispers of continuous firefights and mistaken identities to be exaggerations... that is if I weren't mistaken for a reaver myself when I made the mistake to accompany the Doctor into the field in a moment of foolish boredom.

Recommend expansion of our services in the future as the green light to offer more then the basic account garnered allot of interest. There is money to be made on this little moon, perhaps not all of it in the strictest interests of the law, but that does not mean we cannot profit. Alternative agents might be deployed to safe guard this interest for the good of the Alliance. I would therefor further recommend some kind of mutual beneficial relationship be cultivated between the bank and Mr Dice's enterprise in the future. As he seems not only to be the main business player, but oddly enough the only one whom all varieties of this little moon's populace trust to one degree or another.

Any of my negative comments can only be attributed to my own my own negligence or inaction. Mainly in part that I missed the 'casting call' for night reavers. Any thing else has been already stated above ie identification of said reavering under daytime conditions. Also maybe in order to keep the game from becoming reavers vs townfolk again, to have time frame based reaver attacks (randomized to keep us guessing of course) which may or may not still require dedicated reavers... I don't know ::shrugs:: just a suggestion.
But other then that: weeeeeeeeee freefall!

Field Commander’s Personal Journal:

A While Before Freefall III
With the Prophet as our guide, we have located the old Tower Minehead. It looks like it has been abandoned since the Independence War. At least four of the shafts still look workable, but without equipment or experience our followers can only eek out the most minimal Divine Fruit of New Eden. We are meeting the Prophet’s needs for now, and he in turn sustains us. However I am confident that with faith we can find a way to increase production, allowing us to accelerate our ascendance and join the Prophet as Men-Made-Angels. Our efforts have also yielded quantities green ataraxite. It is divinely worthless, but others will pay for it, and thus its sale has funded the construction of our holy fortress nearby. I would have preferred to construct it around the mine, but the area is too riddled with sinkholes and old mineshafts to be reliably stable.

Shortly Before Freefall III
We continue to have difficulty extracting enough Divine Fruit of New Eden. A large group of refugees has set up camp nearby, bringing their Alliance protectors and the Reavers that feed on them both. They have strayed from the True Path, but may not all be unrighteous. We shall watch them with wary eyes. The Prophet sees this incursion as a potential windfall of new converts. Our ranks remain small, and these outsiders may have useful skills. My priority remains the sanctity of the compound. To this end I have acquired several anti-personnel landmines and high-voltage stun traps leftover from the war. Tomorrow I shall begin installing them throughout the compound to thwart any interlopers this new population may bring.

Saturday
While the Prophet was away, two men approached the compound and were stopped at the main entrance. They claimed to be crew from a cargo shuttle in search of fuel. As we had none, I sent them on their way. It is the Prophet’s job to set policy, not mine. After His return, a group of miners approached and were granted entry. In exchange for all the Divine Fruit of New Eden that was extracted, the Prohpet agreed to let them work Tower Minehead and keep the green ataraxite for themselves. The miners did not yet have equipment, so they left to make further arrangements. Later we were waved by an individual claiming to own all the mining equipment on planet. Since the minehead was ours, he wanted an arrangement that would allow it to be worked. As this seemed a mutually beneficial arrangement, the Prophet agreed. Perhaps He was right about the newcomers. He has even hired a lone mercenary to assist us, though perhaps He hired him out of pity. The man’s equipment is in shambles and given his age, it is difficult to believe he was the sheriff of a local town. Still, he seems eager enough to prove himself and by himself has no power to harm us.

There was a small Reaver raid this afternoon. The sentries grew complacent, and several of the abominations suddenly rushed through the front gate and up onto the second level. We reacted swiftly and exterminated the unholy scourge. The Prophet and several Guardian Angel Elect, myself included, were wounded, but under His divine power our injuries healed within minutes. As evening approached the traps proved their worth by blunting several more minor Reaver incursions. Their numbers remain small, though I wonder how long that will last given the large and vulnerable population that they obviously know is here.

The miner with whom we had earlier dealings returned in a rush with an ore extractor. Shortly before, Reavers had been seen attacking the minehead, but then Alliance task force and mercenaries were counter-attacking. The miner claimed that someone other than Reavers had been attacking them and that he had run to us with the equipment to prevent it being captured. The Prophet allowed him to hide it for safekeeping in one of the towers as a gesture of goodwill. Our mercenary was also wounded at some point. The Prophet gave his blood to heal the other’s injuries and initiate him into our fold. After that the man began spending suspicious amounts of time away from the compound. Later we learned he had returned to town and consulted a doctor on how to purge our holiness from his veins. To that end he returned to the compound and shot the Prophet in secret. He was no match for the Prophet’s power however, and I can only assume He let him escape as an example to others. Without the Prophet’s gifts, the mercenary shall not live long, and his death shall be tortuous.

We were visited by the head engineer for the Terraforming Commission. He was distraught by the missing ore collector, which the Prophet returned. It seems the miner had been planning to stash the equipment to do some illegal mining after dark. After a Reaver tripped one of the stun traps, an Alliance officer also stopped by to investigate what he thought had been an explosion at our compound, but quickly left on more urgent business.

As evening fell, the Prophet invited inside all miners and mercenaries willing to help defend the castle. Apart from a lone Reaver that went on a brief but bloody rampage, we were left alone, though their unholy cries and those of their victims echoed through the night from the direction of the town and minehead. We were also infiltrated by an evildoer who attempted to sow chaos in our ranks and get us to turn against one another. He failed to inflict lasting harm however. The Elect were merely inconvenienced, and the Prophet saw fit to give of himself to heal our mundane allies, who were also rewarded with food and drink from our private stores. Several other Alliance soldiers and civilians stumbled into our traps or were wounded or fired upon when they approached in the dark and refused to identify themselves.

Sunday
When it looked like another Reaver raid had befallen the minehead, the Prophet and I ventured forth to assist in the interest of maintaining good relations, though we had as yet seen no benefit from our previous dealings. A mixture of Alliance and mercenaries had already cleared the area by the time we arrived and were pushing the unholy scourge back toward whence they came. We followed and hailed the Alliance as we came up from behind, but were met with caution bordering on hostility. This impasse was finally broken when we took Reaver fire, prompting everyone to take cover and return it. Assisted by an armored car, we pushed toward the spaceport, but the attack lost steam. I do not expect civilians to have the wherewithal for an offensive again such satanic spawn, but the other troops, merc and Alliance alike, slowly disappeared from the frontlines. When the Prophet was called back to administer our followers, I was left alone with two other soldiers and the armored car. The situation was untenable. As I returned toward the minehead, I encountered a lone Alliance trooper moving toward the front. I attempted to inform him of the situation ahead, but he largely ignored my advice and was soon wounded by Reavers. I moved back again only to meet two more Alliance, including their commander, heading forward. They arrived in time to hear the screams of the first trooper as he was claimed by the abominations. With some fresh mercs, we managed to clear the spaceport, though more Reaver ships were landing reenforcements nearby. The Alliance carted off everything of value they could lay their hands on, and summoned by the Prophet, I returned to the castle. Three mercenaries elected to stay at the spaceport when the Alliance pulled out. I do not know how long they lasted.

We suffered fewer Reaver raids today, but they were bigger and more organized. The traps again thinned their numbers and slowed them down, allowing us to decimated them from on high. Later in the day they began to concentrate their attacks elsewhere.

Midday we abruptly took semi-automatic fire from two bunkers on the perimeter of the minehead. We spotted one of the ghillie suited individuals that had been seen in the area the past day or so and returned fire. Several of us left the wall to make an assault on the positions since the Alliance and others in the minehead were doing nothing about it. When the Alliance finally reacted, it was to shoot at us and bring in an armored car. Things escalated from there, which was probably the snipers’ intent. I dropped a number of Alliance before the head engineer came forward to sort out the misunderstanding. He claimed there had been Reavers on our outer perimeter, which was always a most feasible possibility, but the fire we took was deliberately aimed at the upper level and wounded an Elect.

Near noon, the sentries spotted a large Alliance force headed our way. They were supported by armor and outnumbered the devout by around three to one. The commander claimed we were bound by Alliance law to put down our weapons and exit the stronghold. With the force arrayed against us, I did not think their intentions could be anything but evil and thought that this was surely the start of the final holy war. When we did not comply, the Alliance opened fire first. We immediately returned it. I gunned down two of the unrighteous before an RPG struck the wall opposite me and I fell. My wound healed, and I stood again, making sure to shoot the man with the rocket launcher first. More men fell to my wrath, but I could not touch the armored car. I ran to the rocket launcher we had stashed for just such an emergency, but it malfunctioned. Below me I could hear Alliance breaching the front entrance, so I displaced to a different position to smite more of them. Their doctor attempted to tend to the wounded, but I dropped him. No quarter was asked or given. If they wanted total war they would get it. Between the traps and our interlocking fields of fire, the inside of the castle became a killing zone. The remaining live Alliance were trapped outside or pinned in the bottom of a single tower with no clear way to ascend to the second level. Attrition was on our side. Suddenly there came word that the miners had negotiated a cease fire, though it took a long time to get everyone to stop shooting at each other. I believe the crew of the Waxwing was caught up in the hostilities as well. Warily, we negotiated with the task force to discover that they had come in search of missing mining equipment. How now fortuitous that the Prophet had not retained the stolen extractor earlier. They were allowed to search the compound to their satisfaction, which the commander would certainly have been allowed to do had he showed up without an army and ultimatum. He left under several conditions. We were to comply promptly next time, not approach the minehead, not heal any more civilians and sell the Alliance any “white ataraxite” we might acquire. With that attitude, I do not think we will be able to avoid hostilities with them in the future.

The Alliance incursion had clearly demonstrated that our anti-armor defenses were lacking, so I journeyed to town to recover a more reliable rocket launcher stashed earlier. I traveled light, with only sword and sidearm. The acquisition went smoothly, and I left the refugee camp by a roundabout route with the launcher wrapped in cloth to avoid unnecessary attention. My path took me past the grounded Pixious, and one of their crew pulled a stunner on me after I had passed. I pulled my knife, but continued backing away and fled into the field back to the True Path compound.

Later in the day, we were visited by the Alliance doctor. He either did not know it was I had shot him during the assault or did not bear a grudge. He brought a body guard that required the Prophet’s ministrations, and accused Him of tampering with his Coretex files, which I had attempted to access earlier when we heard rumors the doctor was working on an “antidote” to the Prophet’s gift for the mutinous mercenary. There were no files, and now the doctor thought we had deleted them. As if we had such access. The situation grew even more mysterious when the Prophet went in private to access the Coretex for further information. There was a sound, and He cried out. I rushed over to find Him collapsed on the ground. The doctors could not find anything wrong, and He came to after several long seconds but with no memory of even accessing the Coretex. Most troubling.

As the afternoon waned, the followers grew restless, so I planned a raid on the Reaver firebase. Loyal Jedi remained behind alone to guard the compound, while we exited through a trap door to avoid observation. We took the long way around the swap to approach the abominations’ camp unnoticed from the east. A raiding party was just departing, so we let them get out of earshot before unleashing the righteous fury of the True Path. The fighting was brief, but vicious. I was hit several times, but after each the Prophet gave of himself to heal me more quickly than I could myself. Unfortunately, we were too late to save any captives the Reavers might have had. We looted an Alliance armored car they had managed to knock out but found only a disposable antitank weapon as a search of the rest of the firebase turned up nothing of value. Our attack caused another Reaver ship to abort its landing however. A few other mercs were attacking the location the same time as we were. They were thanked for their cooperation and went on their way. The True Path rallied and left via the landbridge.

We returned to find the compound swarming with Reavers. They had claimed it as their own in our absence. This was intolerable, and after suppressing an abomination on the rear wall, we breached the rear entrance to again release our holy fury. The Elect ran into murderous crossfire, but after each hit their faith healed them and they carried on. The abominations were ill situated to repulse our assault, allowing Hop and me to clear a staircase and ascend to the second level which was largely vacant. The fighting was heavy, but as the day drew to an end, all or virtually all the Reavers were scalped or downed. All that remained was a mop up operation. Jedi’s remains were found at his post, and it appears he turned his RPG on himself rather than let his sacred vessel be taken by the scourge. We have lost our first Elect this day, and his passing shall be mourned.

Chaos reigns outside. From what we have been able to gather, the Alliance task force has been all but wiped out. The miners and other refugees too have suffered heavy casualties. I do not know what tomorrow may bring, but the Followers of the True Path will be here to face it.

Whoo! This was my first Freefall, and it certainly was an experience. I come from the airsoft side of things, so I was not entirely sure what to expect. The RPing aspects were different, but I loved the open-endedness of everything with all the different story threads in play, and am a bit disappointed that I did not get to partake of them more. The lack of information was great, and was illustrated to me Saturday night. I was constantly making the rounds in the castle to check that the perimeter was secure and everyone on it was in good shape. A merc asked for water, so I brought him a bottle, and he asked if it would make him invincible. He said the rumor in the camp was that the water we drank made us invincible. Ha! In this respect I think keeping our respawn rules a secret was a success. We were an unknown quantity. For those that do not already know, the Prophet and Eve healed their own wounds in five seconds. The Guardian Angel Elect, which was the rest of us since we never managed to get any other converts, healed their own in two minutes, much like Reavers. However the Prophet could heal our own wounds faster by injecting us with his blood.

This made us extremely formidable in combat, but there were still ways to kill us. All cultists had to have a blood injection every hour. If we missed one for two hours, we died. The Reavers could also have paired up to drag us off to their base for a regenerating all-you-can-eat two-hour buffet. However our numbers were never large. With the Prophet and Eve, we had seven cultists total. It was difficult to keep the castle secure, even more so while sending anyone into the field for other objectives. We could never even contemplate trying to secure the minehead and the castle. Even if we could have dealt with the Alliance in the open, everyone wanted that mine, and we would have been overrun by a coalition. My guess is that the Alliance would have thrown us in their holding cell, and after an hour or two our weakness would have been quite apparent. Goodbye cult. So in some respects the castle was a hindrance to our greater objectives.

The hourly injections were a good curtail on our field activities, but it was a restriction that was easy to lose track of. I used the stopwatch on my watch, but I think there may have been some civilians that the Prophet healed/addicted that did not come back in time for their doses. The Elect were supposed to have plastic gems in their foreheads, but there was no way short of super glue that they were going to stick for long in the sweaty field.

I liked having the Reavers, though I share the common complaints about being able to identify them and some of their behavior. Numerous times I saw them run away. They should be more like zombies in Op Plague, where once they see prey, they attack until they have it or die. On that note, I did not particularly care for the scalping rule. What if, again like the zombies in Plague, you only had to down them three times to force them to return for a respawn. Scalping could be retained as proof of a kill to turn in for a bounty. When hit, a Reaver could stay down for a relatively short period of time, say 30 seconds, then rise and continue fighting. If their position is overrun when they still have ‘downs’ left, they are forced to return to respawn anyway. This way you could simulate three times the player number of Reavers without them infinitely standing back up. Reaver waves would also be more continuous, and thus, more vicious, ending abruptly when they all died. I did think the Reaver progression went well for this event. It was light in the beginning, but escalated as the weekend progressed.

Since all radio channels save Gryphon’s were open, an interesting idea would be to take the “Reaver frequency” that the crew was listening to while they approached Miranda in the movie and have that on infinite loop on one of the radio channels. Freaky.

Lost:
(1) Window alarm. White magnetic type. Someone might have removed it when they disarmed it?
(2) Madbull Airsoft Landmines that were buried near the outside corners of the castle. From what I gathered talking to people, they may have ended up with Wolf Recon. I understand why they were picked up, but I would have thought it common sense to leave traps in place so their owners can find them again.
(1) Silver and black plastic bootknife. Dollar store type. Not a big deal, but I mention it for completeness. Probably fell out at some random location.
(3) NERF rockets. I believe Jedi grabbed these by mistake since he also had a bunch in the castle, so if anyone sees him regularly, please mention it. He should be able to tell by the marking which ones are not his.

Rekkon, your patented War and Peace AARs have found a home. That was a really good read, there. Bravo!

I agree with you re: keeping track of addiction/withdrawal schedules. The plotline was cool, but it was also kind of a pain if you didn't happen to have a watch with you when you were injected - I had to guess what time my clock started (roughly 15 minutes before lunch, or ~12:15), and then spend the next two hours annoying the crap out of my fellow players, asking them what time it was. I don't know what to suggest to fix that, though, other than maybe include a note saying "bring a watch!" to the game description...

Good points on the Reaver front, as well. I think there was a bit of difficulty encountered when it came to maintaining a balance between "Reavers are organized enough to crew spaceships" and "Reavers are extreme aggressors that will attack anything that moves" - the way I figure it, they can use advanced tactics all they want in the planning stages, but once combat starts, it's either win or die. Your suggestion of more Plague-like respawns is worth considering, but I'd add that if a Reaver is scalped before they're out of "downs," that still sends them back to respawn.

Margaret Blake After Action Report: Year 3

From the personal voice record of Margaret Blake:

Log entry: Saturday, 18th of July, 11:57pm

Guh kwai luh duh jean jan! The Waxwing came back! I’d heard rumors that she was on her way, but I almost didn’t believe them. It’d been a year since the Reavers had hit and left me stranded here, and the Captain hadn’t ventured back since. But with the mines opening back up, Freefall (for all that it’s made of tents now) was still a place of interest for people like me. I’d been doing odd jobs, packing field dressings and the like, and scoping the local crime possibilities, when I looked up and saw the old Angel of Mercy coming down to port all rough-like.

I ran out alone to meet them on the airstrip, Reavers be damned. When Captain Furo saw me, he didn’t say anything like “how’d things go with the journalist?” or “glad to see you’re still alive.” He just asked he same old question, the one he’d asked when I crewed up with him the first time, two years ago: “How are you with following orders?” I grinned and just like that I was crew again, like I hadn’t been gone a year.

Of course, things went a bit downhill from there. Me, Heck, and a freelancer that we’d worked with last year were told to defend the ship while the Captain and Moe went to town to find some business deals. He wasn’t gone long when the ship got hit by Reavers. It was chaos – they got on board, and nobody wins against Reavers in close quarters. We were lucky to escape with our lives, and we spent the next hour or so running around in the woods, trying to shake them.

When we finally got back to the town, the Captain was less than pleased. He’d done his usual fine job of gathering semi-reliable mercenaries, but that didn’t make retaking the Waxwing any more pleasant-sounding. Things looked up a mite when the Alliance shuttle driver called us over, felt he owed us a favor, given the Captain and I did him quite a good turn a couple years back. The whole crew piled into the shuttle, happy to have a well-armored ride to our now-hostile ship.

Wouldn’t you know it, that’s right when Commander Kerrick walks up, intent on using the shuttle for his own piece of mayhem. So he comes around to the airlock, bellowing at the driver about unauthorized passengers and disciplinary action and some interesting theories on the curing of human hides, and then when he sees us… the look on his face was priceless. Shocked and gorram pleased at the same time. One of these days I’ll figure out why he’s so enamored of the Waxwing and her Captain. Whatever the reason, we got to ride along until the tower mine.

Our return to the Waxwing was a bit anticlimactic. Don’t know if the shuttle spooked the Reavers (unlikely), or if they just decided that an out-of-gas spaceship just weren’t fun enough, but we didn’t have the fight we were expecting. With no fuel or interesting contraband aboard for us to guard, it was decided that the only way to keep the ship safe from Reavers was to abandon it until we had the fuel to conduct our business properly.

We spent the rest of the day hunting for that fuel, and keeping out eyes and ears peeled for future business ventures. Turns out, the fuel depot was inside Reaver territory. It took a small army – the better part of two mercenary companies – to take the position, but we managed to pull it off with a minimum of casualties and enough spare hands to take the entire fuel cache back to the Waxwing. Jing tsai, right?

With a full tank of gas, two barrels to spare, and the sound of Reavers gathering past the treeline, the stars looked pretty inviting. We took to the sky while the sun was setting, hoping a good night’s sleep means a good day’s business tomorrow.

It started so good. Just like old times. Captain was making his deals, more than the crew could keep track of, like always.

Run gems and ore for the miners. Maybe guard Dice Dexl if he goes out to check the mines himself. The good old wait-rush-wait. The cult holed up in their giant fortress weren’t paying enough to be worth dealing with. Wish we’d been quit of them then…

There was this miner. He got hurt, and the “Prophet” jabbed him with a needle full of something. Bug Juice, like what that one kid was on a year ago… least I thought so. There’s where it started. The miner was going to die in two hours if he didn’t get more.

We helped Doc Brahms… he was going to try and make an anti-toxin, something to back off the withdrawal symptoms. Captain walked right up to the “Prophet” and asked him for a sample of the drug. Ai-yah tyen-ah, it was his blood. His gorram blood. I was the one who carried it back to the Doc…

He needed to get the sample off the planet, but couldn’t afford the Waxwing. Captain Furo didn’t trust the captain of the other ship… I got to play bodyguard… to spy on the other guy.

Doc had to go back to the fortress… to get a dose for the miner, I think. He was with us. Him and a couple others. There was a fight. Feds were looking for the missing mining equipment… a couple of them got hurt. Doc went to play hero… always does that, stupid hun dan. I got hit. Not bad. Grazed scalp. MedPak would’ve fixed it… I had two in my belt.

But the “Prophet” comes crawling down the ramp I’m hiding on… sticks me with that ruttin’ syringe he carries around. Try not to think about what was in it. It made my head stop hurting… a rush like… nothing… I got to cover under the tower, with the Feds and the Doc and everyone. Nearly got grenaded right back out of it.

There was talking… the Feds got to do their search… and the Doc tried to figure what was up with the… drug, if that’s what you want to call it. The Prophet would give it to his acolytes for free… The rest of us… had to pay.

We got back to town okay… I kept an eye on Doc Brahms for another trip out… There was something about a deal. And the Doc’s credentials… it’s fuzzy.

The Captain needed help. He had… barrels of ore coming in from the mines. Thought there’d be trouble. So I helped.

I started feeling a little shaky… and then the mining engineer came running… yelling… about knifing three Alliance personnel. They had to leave… I had to stay. Had to get back.

I watched the Waxwing… our Angel of Mercy… take off… And then I ran. Cut through the camp… couldn’t make it to the fortress. Couldn’t keep running. Crawled back to the Doc’s table… he ain’t here.

Captain said he’d come back for me… me and Moe. Hope they…

Captain Daniel Nathanson arrived on Ataraxia with only his shuttle the Conexant. His main ship, a Firefly class transport ship named the Aurora, was off-world with most of his crew on a milk run. Meanwhile Captain Nathanson and two crew members had some business to conclude on Ataraxia. Unfortunately he landed right before the Reaver attack on the port city of Freefall and was stranded there until he could refuel his ship. This was made difficult by the fact that the Reavers captured the fuel dump and there was no available fuel to be had anywhere else. Captain Nathanson started making contacts hoping to get enough money to buy some fuel once it had been recovered from the fuel dump, however he was unsuccessful.

That night, he and two members of his crew went out hunting Reavers, unfortunately they got too close to the True Path compound, were mistaken for Reavers and shot and wounded. The followers of the True Path tended their wounds but in the process used a substance, the Blood of the Prophet, to heal their wounds which creates an automatic addiction. Captain Nathanson and his two crew members were given a choice, they could join the cult and receive injections that would keep them alive or go through withdrawal and after two hours die. Captain Nathanson and his friends flatly refused to join with the sick cultists. They decided however to not die in vain, therefore they assaulted the Reaver base shortly before being rendered unconscious by the effects of withdrawal. They managed to take down several Reavers before blacking out. The next morning they were found dead from the effects of the withdrawal.

Upon the discovery of Captain Nathanson's death, a comm message was immediately sent out informing his family and crew of his death. His cousin former war captain Daniel Dickinson, who had flown with Captain Nathanson many times, intercepted the message and hopped the next transport to Ataraxia. Upon arrival, Daniel Dickinson claimed the body of his cousin along with all his personal affects and ownership of his Conexant shuttle and his transport ship, the Aurora. Daniel Dickinson commed the crew of the Aurora and was heartily if a bit grievingly received as the new captain of the Aurora. Captain Dickinson swore that he would continue his cousin's business as if his cousin were still alive and that he would help bring down the True Path cult that was responsible for his death. The crew of the Aurora said that they would make best possible speed for Ataraxia but that they were unsure of exactly when they would arrive.

Towards the goal of bringing down the True Path, Captain Dickinson got in contact with local physician in Freefall, Doctor Brown, who it was rumored was working on a cure for this addiction. Captain Dickinson agreed to transport some samples of the Prophet's blood and a man named Gabriel who was currently addicted to the substance but also working with the Doc to find a cure. Unfortunately, Captain Dickinson ran into the same trouble that Captain Nathanson had in procuring fuel. Eventually he talked to Commander Kerrick of the Alliance who was stationed on planet about the possibility of having his fuel paid for in return for his services in helping the Doctor find a cure. Commander Kerrick agreed but the time it took to acquire the fuel was too great and Gabriel and the Doctor got another ship captain to do the transport.

Captain Dickinson however was not going to let go the fact though that his cousin was dead at the hand of this perverted cult. And so, with help from Gabriel, he initiated a Cortex Uplink and came up with the following information.

********************* CORTEX DATA UPLOAD **********************

During the Unification Wars, there was an Independent Battalion, the 45th, (a.k.a. the Lost Battalion, a.k.a. the Bugs because they seemed to be indestructible, only by removing their head could they be killed.) As far as I can tell, the 45th Battalion dropped out of sight a while back and they dropped into the stuff of legend. Medical records on the Cortex show that 14 members of the 45th Battalion were treated for unexplained nervous breakdowns. None of them were above the rank of Sergeant. They all died within 24 hours of going nuts. There were two other cases of unexplained nervous breakdowns who also died. However, they were not part of the 45th and it was deemed that the cause of death was heart failure.

Recently, the cult of the True Path arose with this guy called the Prophet as their leader. Their belief is that the Prophet and his second in command are the new Adam and Eve and that the whole planet of Ataraxia is their Holy Ground. Most of his followers are addicted to a substance called the Blood of the Prophet. It is an unknown narcotic that is rumored to actually be the prophet's blood. There are certain followers that are so completely addicted that they are called Guardian Angels. The interesting thing about these Guardian Angels is that they are practically impossible to kill. About the only thing that will kill them is if somehow you can remove their head, just like the Bugs of the 45th Battalion.

The doctor in Freefall is loosely aligned with the Alliance and he is trying to find a cure not only for the addiction that the followers of the True Path have to this Prophet's blood but also to an unexplained illness that seems to be spreading around the port of Freefall. The symptoms of this illness appear to be a unexplained nervous breakdown followed shortly thereafter by death. Currently there is no effective treatment.

********************* END OF DATA UPLOAD **********************

Captain Dickinson and Gabriel gathered up the assistant medic to the Doctor and went out to the True Path compound to get a sample of blood from the Prophet and from the Doctor as Gabriel had suspicions that the Doctor might be one of the Bugs. The Doctor refused to give a blood sample but they did manage to acquire a sample from the Prophet, after which the three of them booked it out of there in a hurry. Later, when Captain Dickinson asked how the sample compared with the data from another sample on file all the assistant medic could tell him was that the results came back as classified. Not satisfied by that answer, Captain Dickinson planned to get to the bottom of what he now suspected to be a very deep, complex mystery that seemed to go all the way back to the Unification Wars.

The Alliance then made an announcement that they were looking for fighters to help assault the True Path compound. Captain Dickinson signed up and geared up for the assault. During the fight it became evident that the Reavers had beaten the Alliance to the punch and had captured the compound and now seemed to be holed up in the compound, almost completely protected. Seeing the futility of trying to keep assaulting the compound, Captain Dickinson fell back to a secure position away from the front lines near the town and awaited news of the outcome of the battle. Sadly news finally came back that Commander Kerrick had been killed in action while trying to save the lives of his men. This meant that once again Captain Dickinson would not get paid. Hang it all!

FROM: CWC Human Resources
TO: Paul **CLASSIFIED**, Next of Kin
SUBJECT: REGRETS and DISBURSEMENT INFORMATION
DATE: July 23

We regret to inform you of the death of Paul **CLASSIFIED**. Our field agents have confirmed that he died four days ago on ATARAXIA during a rescue attempt of fellow CWC personnel who had been captured during a skirmish with a group of REAVERS.

You may wish to know that the deceased fought effectively and died amongst the bodies of those he had killed. He performed admirably in several important missions with other CWC operatives prior to his death.

Compensation from all applicable insurance policies and death benefits, including shares owed to the deceased for completion of any negotiated and completed contracts on ATARAXIA have been disbursed to the accounts selected by the deceased.

Unfortunately, retrieval of his desecrated remains is not cost effective at this time. You should expect no further correspondence on this matter from CWC.

Dexeldine Corporate Security log: Lexi Khatarin

Upon arriving planet side and assessing the situation on this backwater moon, it was easy to see profit was going to be made. Free fall was in chaos and looking for a strong figure to lead and guide them. Enter the esteemed presence of Mr. Dice Dexel. Running security for him in this place was a breeze. Waste of my talents. Everyone was so willing to ask for his help and things progressesd smoothly. No extortion, strong arming, assainations or torture needed. That's a shame. Though smart for future buisness relations.

I was very excited with the possibility of blood sports that started up in the arena for a while, but then our champions got called back into the field. Perhaps in the future there will be more.

I headed into the field for a while sunday with security coworker Spade, assessing Mr.Dexels mine investments and was SHOCKED by the lack of security. There were extractors sitting abaondoned in a mine head with no one mining or protecting it. We arrived right after an engineer stabed alliance forces and ran off. They need to take lessons from our security forces. It' s a good thing Mr. Dexel is now 75% owner of the mines and incharge of security. It's about time these mines are put into effective and protected production.

Good read Rekkon! Simply amazing!
I like the parts that had me in them. lol

Its tough work bringing a seize fire about when Alliance and True Path folks wanna shoot each other alot.

And being the Doctors "bodyguard"..... that was so last minute. But only because the Prophet shot me up with that ruttin' holy juice.

Good stuff it is for sure....but man does it bite back!!!1

Personal log of Alliance medic PFC Shifty,

So I have been on this rock for two days and I have been shot stabbed almost eaten by reavers yes folks they are real. Still have not been paid. I hope that joining the army was not a mistake, however I am doing much better then some of my comrades. I don't remember much after our attack on the true path compound, I took several rounds and that is all. From what I hear the gunships found me passed out next to several troopers and two dead reavers, pistol and knife still in hand. The only good thing that has happened to me is that I have made quite a few friends here, the people out on the rim are not so bad. Most of my friends from school said they are all brutes and uneducated, but I would beg to differ. I hope the doctor from the ship is alright, she helped patch up myself and several other troopers, I don't even remember her name or the name of the ship she was on. Right now I am sitting in a hospital bed recovering from wounds hope to get back in the fight as soon as possible.

End of log.

What a game, I have been waiting for three years to go to this game and it was worth it. Saw a lot of good things and some things that needed to be worked on but that happens with every airsoft game. this was also my first LARP and it won't be the last.

Rekkon I found two of those mines and put them with my stuff, I turned one of them over to Dave the field owner and the other one got lost in my stuff, send me a PM over the WAA boards and I can ship it to you, I did not know any one had placed them there that day thats why I picked them up, sorry.
