What does airsoft gun upgrading mean?
6 Nov 2009
So what does upgrading your airsoft gun mean anyway? Why would you want to upgrade any airsoft gun? The short answers are, to upgrade means replacing weak stock parts with custom airsoft gun parts. Why? for long term durability and performance, longer range, better accuracy, faster rate of fire.
Many players upgrade airsoft replicas with custom external parts, metal bodies, foregrips, rails and the list of potential gun upgrades goes on and on. Veteran airsoft players agree, the best airsoft guns to use.....
Are the models that easily accept standard gun parts. Do some homework before you purchase your new airsoft gun. What type gearbox is in this model? Metal or Plastic? Plastic gearbox guns tend to be throw away guns unless you can fix and upgrade them yourself when they break. Metal gear box model guns are designed for and can be upgraded. Be sure parts are readily available for the model you choose to purchase and remember, there are no perfect airsoft guns. these are all mechanical devices and they will break down sooner or later and must be maintained on a regular basis for maintained peak performance. Some parts will wear out quicker than others just like on your car, tires wear out much faster than other parts. Now think of your airsoft guns hop up unit as the place where the "rubber meets the road" and you will understand why it will be one part you will need to upgrade or replace annually. Be sure you know what type or version gear box your new gun has, Version 2 gearboxes are found mostly in M4 and M16 replicas but are not limited to these designs. Find out before you buy your gun if it includes metal bushings or plastic bushings, metal spring guide or plastic style. The plastic guides and bushings tend to wear out or fail quickly (3-4 months) causing expensive repairs. These should always be the first parts you upgrade in any new airsoft gun. Do not fall into the I want my gun upgraded to shoot bb's 9000 foot per second club. As I said before these are mechanical working replica guns and they have mechanical limitations engineered into the various components. Yes you can upgrade airsoft guns over 400 FPS, but you will need to have a fat wallet and a mechanical advantage as your gun will break down more often due to the excessive wear and tear. Google searches can yield both good and bad information about airsoft gun upgrades. Be sure the sources you choose to use to self educate yourself are providing you with detailed upgrade information in a complete context. Trust me there is more to "airsoft upgrade science" than to just "install a new 130 spring and your airsoft replica will shoot 4 gazzillion feet per second accross 3 football fields" so searchers beware.
